Here we go again. As has become my pattern at year end, I set out some personal goals for 2023. I checked in at Q1, and Q2 and it is now time to review progress at Q3.

TL;DR: Starting to make progress after a poor start to the year. Seems I can’t cycle a lot and read a lot at the same time!

>> Read 50 books. Under target, 30 books read so far, 11 in this quarter. Progress on the sub-targets:

  • Read two Victorian classics. One (Middlemarch) read so far, so need to make sure I get another one in before year end.
  • Read three books to educate myself more about race. Under target — none read so far, although have re-read big chunks of White Fragility again.
  • Finish the long-neglected Biography of Ceasar — no progress.

>> Summarise 100% of non-fiction books read. On target. Read and summarised 4 so far.

>> Cycle 4000 miles. Over target. 3,446 miles cycled so far (compared to 3,646 this time last year). I’ve been training for a big ride that I did in September, so that provided a useful focus to keep the legs spinning when motivation was low.

>> Cycle a Gran Fondo each month. Above target, with 10 so far this year, although the distribution is not uniform across the year.

>> Cycle to Work 3 times a month. Kind of on target. 23 times so far. Where I’ve been able to logistically, I’ve cycled each week and even a couple of times during August.

>> Write 10 Blog Articles. 3 done so far.

>> Get 3,000 Twitter Followers. 2,667 currently.

>> Get to my target weight. Some decent progress over the summer. Will see if I can sustain it as winter approaches.

>> Write weeknotes. No target (intentionally).

>> Write two “Thought” Pieces. No progress.

>> Do Some Substantial Research. Prepared the FOI in Q1 but still not sent it out.

Next update — year close in Jan 2024…
