Here we go again. As has become my pattern at year end, I set out some personal goals for 2023. It’s now time to review progress at Q1.

TL;DR: Not a great start to the year, but there’s plenty of time yet!

>> Read 50 books. Well under target, 8 books read so far, but given they included Middlemarch and Thinking Fast and Slow, that’s understandable. Progress on the sub-targets:

  • Read two Victorian classics. On track — one (Middlemarch) read so far.
  • Read three books to educate myself more about race. Under target — none read so far.
  • Finish the long-neglected Biography of Ceasar — no progress.

>> Summarise 100% of non-fiction books read. On target. Read and summarised 1 so far.

>> Cycle 4000 miles. Quite a bit under target. 598 miles cycled so far (compared to 690 this time last year). Not got enough miles in my legs yet — 40 miles still feeling like a long slog.

>> Cycle a Gran Fondo each month. Below target . Zero done so far.

>> Cycle to Work 3 times a month. Kind of on target. 6 times so far. I’ve been at the new job 2 and a bit months now, but took until month 2 before I’d got my locker and bike store sorted, so I’ve got into a bit more a rhythm.

>> Write 10 Blog Articles. 3 done so far.

>> Get 3,000 Twitter Followers. 2,473 currently.

>> Get to my target weight. Back to zero progress.

>> Write weeknotes. No target (intentionally).

>> Write two “Thought” Pieces. No progress.

>> Do Some Substantial Research. Some progress in preparing the text of an FOI. Just need to get it sent out.

Next update — July 2023…
